TechnoBlog - My requirements for a heater - 2014-01-16-19-41

. . . . From the desk of Ms. Ann Abraham . .

So I had this heater, and I wanted the water really hot for my bath.  So I used to switch it on, and it would heat, and when I went for my bath I would have really hot water, and it would be such a treat.

Then the heater stopped heating – maybe it blew a fuse or the heating coil just gave out.. oh dear.

So a better heater would be instantaneous – when I want hot water, I just turn the hot-water tap and that should be connected to an electric switch by a wire (insulated from the water) and that should heat a coil over which the water runs, and then I should get hot water just for that much time, and no more.

And then it will be electricity saved, and heater gained, and I’ll have hot water, and I will bathe again.!

But with all the good food I’m eating, there is no body odour, except if I really sweat, and I don’t really do that either, unless I exercise just after I eat, in which case I sweat like a um, pig.

But one sweats only when one works.  When one is having ball, no one breaks a sweat at all.

Oh I used to sweat a lot, once upon a time, and I loved sweating, and I still do, but I just don’t sweat anymore…  Maybe I should drink more water…

I used to glory in my sweat, once upon a time.  But must be that times are changing stuff… I barely sweated today.  But I know if I don’t wash, I’ll be not-fresh tomorrow, so here I go again…!

Need that heater connected to my hot water tap please…!

TechnoBlog - remote control of devices - 2014-01-14-20-08

. . . . From the desk of Ms. Ann Abraham . .

So there is the internet, and there is the computer sitting on my desk.

And I switch it on, and it connects…

To some server, sitting somewhere,
May be in the middle of … nowhere…

But anyway, the fact is there is wire laid on the way
And what I type here, is seen there.

On a screen.

So I click a key here, and a character appears there…

So expand that please.

I click a key here, and a whole sequence of stuff happens there…

So I click a link here, and a different sequence of stuff happens there…

So I have a variety of links, each connected to different sequences of stuff there…

And depending on which link I click, the targeted sequence starts… Of course, what a mess if the wrong sequence starts… that would be rather painful…

So we make sure that the link we click here is what triggers the sequence of events we actually wish to trigger.

So once that is in place, whenever we want, we just click the link, and the sequence of events happens,… if it is in working order.  If it’s broke, then, hey! What to do… Don’t click the link.. It will only activate the disease.

So then this happen for any sequence of events that is defined.  Define a sequence of events, and define the link in an app.

Upload the app on the phone, and you are ready to go.

Click the thermostat app on the phone, and just like the CD drive opens here, so the electronic thermostat is set at your home, or office, or …wherever…

Do the same for your fridge, your air-conditioner (switch it on about 5 minutes before you get home, and step into a chilled apartment … or switch on the heater about 10 minutes before you get home, and step into a heated apartment, …
Or switch on the geyser just 10 minutes before you need hot water, from wherever you are in the house, so the geyser heats just those minutes, and you’ll have hot water, and then when you go for a jog, and suddenly remember, “Oh no! I forgot to switch off the geyser (water heater, as it is also called), then from my phone app, I can switch it off, and then the geyser stays safe, and doesn’t burn out the coil, or fuse the fuse, and that leads to a longer life for the geyser, and more hot water for um, me…  (Confession time – I wanted really hot water, and left the geyser on too long, and now the heating’s gone, and I bathed in cold water.  BRrrrr!!)

Electricity - plain and simple - 00002

. . . . From the desk of Ms. Ann Abraham . .

So, dude, there is this remote-controlled ship, right.  And it tows a rig with a hole in the center.  In the center of the hole in the center there is a lightning-attracting rod, that is connected to the sides of the hole with rods (slinky, so that when the rig pitches in the sea, the rods slink, and adapt).

And there is this net – basically just cords strung together, so that sea-water can move freely through it.  There are stainless-steel wires connected to this net.  These stainless-steel wires are as large as possible, considering weight restrictions plus a standard resistance, so these two factors determine the Ampacity of the stainless-steel wire.

To protect the physical dimensions of the wire, after an initial part which is allowed to conduct the electricity in, the wire is insulated by PVC.

These wires are laid out, along the sea-bed, till they reach the nearest sea-shore.

They are connected via socket-plugs to another wire, which is a HVDC transmission wire.  This ends in a power station, which can then convert the incoming direct-current to electricity of their required specification.

So where does the electricity source?  There a storm somewhere in the sea nearby.  So the remote-controlled (could get dangerous – lots of charge out there, but hey! Some people might like to be on that ship…) ship is sent into the storm.

The lightning-attracting rod is raised up.  The clouds bang together, and lightning results.  It follows the shortest path to the earth, in this case, the lightning-attracting rod that we have hopefully lifted up.

So the lightning traverses the rod and the rod is kept dipped in the water below, so the lightning continues on in.

Water is a good conductor of electricity, so the electric-charge from the lightning dissipates in the water.

And we have our stainless-steel-conducting wires sitting hopefully in the nets.  So some of the electric-charge flows into them, depending on the resistance (which depends on the circumference of the wire, and the standardized specification which has been determined as the standard (I haven’t yet determined what that is – so basically, get a stainless-steel wire, as large as possible considering that the weight of it needs to be borne by the net / rig etc., round off the dimensions, so it is a nice round number, and whatever the resistance of that wire is, well, that is the standard resistance, so all the wires are made of this dimension).

So now we have current flowing in the wires, and that is electricity.

The electricity flows through the wires, to the sea-shore, where the wire is plugged into a socket that leads to a HVDC wire of the same specification, which is laid in the ground and covered with earth, and which transmits it to a power station.

TechnoBlog - Apple - iMac - GarageBand - Recording tracks - 2014-01-10-06-57

. . . . From the desk of Ms. Ann Abraham . .

2014-01-10-06-45 or sometime around then
And the next requirement is :

Already existing – recording a track.

Required – the ability to play that track back (existing) and then click “Record” and then I can play along with that playing track, and record the whole thing as another track….

Or better yet, record that new sound as a separate track depending on which instrument is connected – if it is the microphone, then all the sounds that play, in a single track, which is useful for outputting all the sound as one track.. in the final analysis.

Or record an acoustic guitar via the microphone, and then plug in an electric guitar (How on earth do I plug an electric guitar into an iMac – I’m looking for a wire with an inclined plug to plug into my electric guitar, and a USB port on the other end, to plug into a USB port on my iMac – Dear Apple, could you please introduce this as an accessory?  In fact, a cable to connect my electronic keyboard to the iMac USB port too – just a regular ¼” jack – cable – USB port please – another accessory, sold separately, maybe or as part of the package deal).

So a separate “Play” button for each track, if you please….
And one master “Play” button to play all the tracks, so there is synchrony.

Or better yet, a check box next to each track, and I’ll check the boxes of the tracks I wish to play, and then click on “Play” and all those tracks will play on the wonderful iMac speakers, and they’ll all get recorded together on the wonderful iMac microphone, and then I’ll be ready to go!

Or so I hope!

TechnoBlog - iMac - GarageBand - MusicalKeyboard - understand - 2014-01-10-19-36

. . . . From the desk of Ms. Ann Abraham . .

Okay, so there is thing called the musical keyboard in GarageBand.  Apparently it’s an onscreen keyboard.

I would like to have a program (app) that associates a particular tone with each key on the physical keyboard.

Wonder how it would sound to actually type a character (single note), a string of characters (a word – oh my!  That would be a tune), and then a string of words (a paragraph – That would be another tune).

Imagine, type a song’s lyrics on the keyboard in a timing, and have the sounds sounding, and there is an automatic tune for the lyrics.  The chorus would sound the same each time, because the same lyrics are being typed out each time.

And then, when we get tired of that tune, or want another tune for the same lyrics, there should be a window on the iMac screen from this app, which allows the association of a particular frequency of note with a particular key on the keyboard.

So when the same lyrics are typed out again, this time with the revised frequency-notes, the tune is well, different!!

I would like to have this please...

And so would many others, except they don't know it yet,.... till it rolls out...

Dear Apple, would you do your best...?  Or less, doesn't matter... just get it done!

Yay! Yay!
